Alliance for Lifelong Learning
In July 2007 the Basic Skills Agency merged with the National Institute for Adult and Continuing Education (NIACE). As part of this process, NIACE formed an alliance with Tribal to take forward the work of the Basic Skills Agency. Known as the Alliance for Lifelong Learning and endorsed by the Department for Innovation Universities and Skills, this new partnership will continue to focus on the development of high-quality, all-age literacy, language and numeracy programmes alongside broader lifelong learning programmes.
The Alliance is committed to continue to build on and learn from the Quality Mark initiative and will continue to work in partnership with local authorities to deliver the Quality Mark, as this has proved to be a successful model of delivery over the past ten years.
The Alliance for Lifelong Learning does not itself carry out the assessment of settings or schools for the Quality Mark but it will arrange for assessments in settings or schools where the Local Authority is not in partnership. Our role is moderation to ensure national consistency in the application of the award and we also provide guidance where clarification is needed.
